Local company Maskcara Beauty reaches out to help foster children

8/9/2018 – SALT LAKE CITY, Utah(News4Utah) There are currently around 2,700 children in Utah's foster care system, but less than 1,400 licensed foster families. And considering that the primary reason children are placed into foster care is because of abuse and/or neglect in their homes, those odds can seem staggering. But Maskcara Beauty, a fast-growing Utah based makeup company, is ready to change those statistics by encouraging more Utah families to open their homes to children in foster care through their new non-profit organization. The company's owners joined Nicea DeGering, to talk about a new film aimed at helping the foster program in Utah.

Nick and Cara are foster parents themselves, so they have seen first-hand, the way it has touched their lives.  They have also seen the negative stigma surrounding the foster system in the US and are saddened by the way that stigma affects would-be foster parents with loving homes.

Last year, Maskcara Beauty introduced two new eyeshadows to its collection (Mi Hija and Stay Golden), with 100% of the proceeds going toward the production of the film Love is Never Wasted, a video aimed at opening more homes to children in the foster system. To date, these two products have raised over $68,000.

The film will premiere at the launch of Maskcara Beauty's new nonprofit organization, the 3D Foundation, on Thursday, August 9th, 2018 at 7 pm at the Clark Planetarium in Salt Lake City. This private event will be attended by the cast of the film as well as the Maskcara Beauty team and top Artists (sales representatives) from around the country.

Following the August 9th premiere event, Love is Never Wasted will be available to view at 3DFoundation.org, along with more information and a place to donate directly. Cara, along with her husband, Nick Killpack, are optimistic that sharing this film will make a difference in helping more families consider opening their homes and hearts to foster children.

About Maskcara Beauty:  Cara Brook Killpack is a celebrated makeup artist, respected beauty blogger, and successful business owner. An early entrepreneur, Cara created a beauty solution for her 5th grade science fair project. Even though the project itself was a bust, she never gave up on the idea that makeup could be revolutionized. And start a revolution she did! She wanted to create an environment and makeup that celebrates and enhances every type of natural beauty, share simple and useful tips, and ultimately to create and share staple products that can be used by every woman time and time again.

Cue Maskcara Beauty! Since its official launch in January 2017, the company has reached $26 million in sales, enjoying unprecedented growth and inspiring thousands of women to recognize and celebrate their own beautiful. The Maskcara Mission states, "Everything we do and everything we create is based on what we believe in. That helping others look beautiful is nice, but helping them believe they are beautiful is life changing. Happiness is contagious. And with enough courage, creativity, and optimism, you actually can have your cake and eat it too." And makeup is only the beginning. As a foster mom herself, Cara is a strong advocate for foster care, working to dispel the negativity and stigmas sometimes associate with foster care and showing what an incredible opportunity it is to help children find love and support in a family setting they wouldn't have otherwise- and how that love makes all the difference.
